With paint and dreams, thirteen youth in Kids’ Alliance from St. Jules School created two murals to illustrate their hopes and interest in the neighborhood surrounding Constable John Atkinson Memorial Community Centre.

The murals were unveiled on Friday with Councillor Ed Sleiman representing Mayor Eddie Francis, representatives of the Windsor Essex Community Health Centre and Parks and Recreation and the entire Kids’ Alliance Team from St. Jules School.

The south wall mural, totaling 192 square feet, illustrates activities in the community centre including karate, basketball, dance, birthday parties, and art.  It was designed and created by the Grade 8 students in Kids’ Alliance.

The north wall mural, totaling 128 square feet, illustrates a park theme with the splash pad, community centre and hill, and some hopes for the future such as flower gardens and a community garden.  It was also created by the Kids’ Alliance team.

Kids’ Alliance worked with the community to determine what neighbours wanted on the exterior of the $1 million addition to the Centre, completed in 2010.

Two other schools participated in the unveiling David Maxwell School and Percy P. McCallum School.
