Animals Awaiting Adoption Hope That “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”

The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society’s Adoption Centre is packed with wonderful animals awaiting their fur-ever home.

In the hopes of finding homes for as many of these animals as possible by Christmas Eve, the Humane Society is having an “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” adoption promotion.  All dog and cat adoptions initiated from December 1st through 24th will have the adoption fees discounted by $24.00.  As well, every day during that period one animal’s kennel will have mistletoe hanging on it, and that animal will receive a free rabies vaccine added to their adoption package if they are adopted that day.  These deals are in addition to all the great usual adoption benefits – spay/neuter surgery, microchip, standard vaccines, deworming, flea treatment, tests for heartworm (dogs) or FeLV/FIV (cats), 6 weeks of health insurance, and post-adoption training classes!

“This year has brought in higher than usual numbers of dogs and cats (we have already exceeded last year’s total intake numbers with a month yet to go in this year).  It is hoped that the Humane Society’s recently-opened veterinary clinic will help to stem the birth of unwanted animals in our community and reduce the number of these animals coming through our doors” said Melanie Coulter, Executive Director of the Humane Society, “However, the good news is that the number of animals who have been adopted this year is also up – as with intake, adoptions year to date already exceed total adoptions in 2010.  But there are still animals waiting, and anyone looking to adopt a new friend is encouraged to consider the Humane Society and help us reach our goal of getting them into fur-ever homes by Christmas.”
