Windsor Police have ones man in custody facing charges after a recent city wide crime spree over a two week period.

On November 5, 2011, police were called to the Zellers store located at Devonshire Mall report of a theft.  Employees told police that at 7:25 pm, a male party entered the electronics department of the store and asked an employee to open a locked cabinet with the intention of purchasing a Sony Playstation console.  The employee obliged and the man selected the console.  As the employee and the man walked to the cash register to check out, the man sprinted out of the store carrying the console making no attempt to pay for the item.  The suspect was captured on surveillance video and identified.

On November 10, 2011, police were called to Tecumseh Mall for a theft report and spoke with a Zellers Loss Prevention Officer.  The officer told police that at 2:30 pm, she was on a break in the food court and observed a man she recognized from a previous theft walk into a clothing store in the mall.  She observed the man select a dress shirt from a clothing rack and conceal it inside his jacket.  The suspect then left the store without paying for the shirt.

On November 12, 2009, police were called to the Wal-Mart Store located at 7100 Tecumseh Road East for a report of a robbery.  The Electronics Department manager told police  that 5:30 pm on that date, a man walked up to the cash register and asked to see two iPod’s.  The manager retrieved the iPod’s from a locked cabinet and placed them on the counter.  The man then grabbed the iPod’s off the counter and threatened the manager that he would kill her if she called police.  The suspect then ran out of the store with the merchandise.  Images of the the suspect were caught on surveillance video and the suspect was identified.

On November 16, 2011, police were called to the RONA store for a report of a theft that had just occurred.  Officers spoke with a Loss Prevention Officer who observed a man select a “Makita” drill from a shelf.  The officer then observed the man exit the store through an emergency exit door without making any attempt to pay for the item.  Security officers attempted to apprehend the suspect in the parking lot but were unsuccessful.  The Loss Prevention Officer recognized the suspect from previous dealings and relayed the information to police

Investigators were able to confirm that the same suspect was responsible for all four occurrences.  On Saturday November 19, 2011, uniformed WPS Officers searching for the suspect located the suspect getting into a vehicle in the 10000 block of  Shenandoah Cr.  The suspect was arrested at this location without incident.

Christopher David Chau aged  27 years of London, Ont. is in custody facing three counts of Theft Not Exceeding $5000 and one charge of Robbery.

Investigators are requesting that any store which may have been the victim of a similar style of  theft or anyone having any information to call Windsor Police Investigations at 519-255-6700 ext 4830.
