Windsor Police are on the hunt for a male suspect after a 72-year-old woman had her purse ripped from her shoulder and received a number of injuries last night.

At 8:50 p.m. of Thursday, August 11, 2011, police were called to the intersection of Victoria Ave at Shepherd Street for a report of a robbery.  Upon arrival, officers found the woman suffering from injuries including abrasions to her nose and knees and some broken teeth.  The victim’s 70-year-old sister who was with her did not sustain any injuries.

The victim and her sister had just left the Tim Horton’s located on Tecumseh Road at Dougall Avenue  at approximately 8:40 p.m. and were walking northbound on Victoria Avenue on the east sidewalk approaching Shepherd St.  The pair were approached from behind by the suspect who grabbed the victim’s purse which had been strapped on her shoulder.  As the suspect pulled the purse, the victim attempted to hold on to the strap causing her to fall forward to the sidewalk resulting in the victim receiving the above mentioned injuries.  The victim was transported to Hotel-Dieu Hospital where she was treated and released. The victim’s purse contained her identification and a quantity of cash.

A man who witnessed the robbery chased the suspect east on Shepherd Street but lost him as the suspect cut through some back yards in the neighbourhood. The suspect was last seen in the rear yard of a residence in the 1500 block of Dufferin Street.

Police ask that anyone with any information regarding the identity of the suspect is asked to call Windsor Police Investigations at 519-255-6700 ext 4830 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 519-258-TIPS(8477).

The suspect is described as a male, white, 5’9″, 180-200 lbs, dark hair, short beard and dark coloured eyes. He was wearing a white T shirt, grey shorts with yellow trim, a dark coloured cap and was carrying a black back pack.
