Windsor Police are investigating after a stolen van crashed in an east end parking lot early this morning.  At 1:30 am on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, police responded to the rear parking lot of Dirty Jersey’s Sports Bar located at 6675 Tecumseh Road East for a report of a stolen van that had just crashed into some landscape rocks.  Upon arrival, officers were met by the owner of the van who advised that he had witnessed the accident and that five suspects had fled on foot from the scene.

The 1999 Plymouth Voyageur had been stolen from the 6900 block of Charlie Brooks Court sometime during the early morning hours on Monday, August 8, 2011.  At 1:20 am this morning, a friend of the van’s registered owner spotted the van with five occupants inside pulling into the rear parking lot 6675 Tecumseh Road East.  The friend blocked the parking lot entrance with her own vehicle and immediately called the owner who was at the Charlie Brooks residence.  Prior to the owner arriving, the friend watched a male and female exit the van and walk eastbound through the parking lot away from the vehicle. The owner and his girlfriend ran to the parking lot from their house and observed the van driving in circles in the parking lot. The owner of the van yelled to the driver to stop.  The driver then accelerated toward the owner and his girlfriend who jumped out-of-the-way and watched as the van struck two large landscaping rocks causing extensive damage to the van including the deployment of the airbags.

Three male suspects then jumped out of the van after the collision and fled the scene on foot westbound through the parking lot then south over a fence.  The owner of the van gave chase on foot for a shirt distance but lost the three suspects going over the fence.  One of the suspects left a black and white Adidas running shoe in the van. Neither the owner of the van nor his girl fiend were injured during the ordeal.

Investigators are seeking the assistance of the public in identifying the suspects responsible for the theft and subsequent collision.

The suspects are described as follows:

1. Male, white, 5’7″, skinny build, 18-20 years, shoulder length dark hair, plaid dress shirt, dark shorts and carrying a back pack.

2. Male, white, 5’7″, skinny build, 18-20 years, short, dark hair, wearing a red and white striped golf shirt and dark shorts.

3. Male, white, 5’7″, skinny build, 18-20 years, short, dark hair wearing a blue t-shirt and dark shorts.

4. Male, white, 6’1″, skinny build, 16-20 years, wearing a blue long-sleeved jacket bearing the Detroit Tigers “English D” on the front and a baseball cap.

5. Female, white, 16- 20 years, 5’1″ with blonde hair, wearing a black miniskirt.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Windsor Police Investigations at 519-255-6700 ext # 4341 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 519-258- TIPS(8477).
