Sandpoint Beach in East Windsor

Starting this weekend, lifeguards from Windsor and Essex County will begin the Rescue Tube Relay with the goal to raise funds for drowning prevention.

The seven-day run begins at 9:00 am on Saturday at the Tecumseh Leisure Pool.  In total, eighteen aquatic facilities including nine City of Windsor pools and Sandpoint Beach, will be participating to raise money for the Lifesaving Society’s drowning prevention campaign.  The communities involved include the Town of Tecumseh, Leamington, Essex and Amherstburg.  St. Clair College has also joined the relay team.

Volunteer lifeguards will carry a rescue tube from pool-to-pool while traveling throughout Essex County.  The first leg is from the Tecumseh Leisure Pool to Sandpoint Beach, a five- km distance. The run will end on Aug. 27 at Seacliffe Park spray pad in Leamington.

Each facility is now collecting donations with the goal of exceeding the funds raised by the York Region Aquatic Council. The Windsor Essex target is $5,000. Donations can be made at all aquatic facilities and tax receipts will be given for donations of $20 or more.
