As the summer quickly winds down, educators at both area school boards are busy getting a head start on the new school year.

At the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board, 800 educators have sat through more than thirty sessions by sixty presenters.  The three-day Summer Institute which wrapped up Thursday aims to support local Catholic educators in their ongoing professional learning as they continue to focus on successful strategies in the classroom and student achievement.

Educators were given the chance to attend voluntary sessions with other colleagues, to share their expertise and to expand their knowledge regarding effective instructional strategies.  Many sessions are funded by the Literacy Numeracy Secretariat and Student Success through the Ministry of Education.

Meanwhile, at the Greater Essex County District School Board hundreds of teachers, school administrators, support staff and community partners will gather at for their annual summer conference, Vision to Practice, Next Monday to Wednesday.

The conference, staged at Caesars Windsor Convention Centre, offers educators a wide variety of professional learning and development opportunities and the latest in instructional techniques from a distinguished panel of presenters.  Keynote speakers during the conference include Ted McCain, an innovator and pioneer in technology education. Dr. Douglas Reeves, the founder of The Leadership and Learning Center, author of 30 books and many articles on leadership and organizational effectiveness and Ron Clark, 2000 Disney American Teacher of the Year, New York Times best-selling author, founder of the Ron Clark Academy.

School official resumes the day after Labour day, Tuesday September 6th.
