Today members of the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association along with the City of Windsor’s Department of Parks & Recreation partnered together to further green Downtown Windsor.

Armed with garden gloves, shovels and much enthusiasm, Downtown merchants and over 30 members of the Windsor City Center Entertainment Association got together to beautify 50 cement tree planters in the city centre.

The department of  Parks & Recreation  generously donated hundreds of plants including boxwoods, spirea and grasses to the cause, and also provided volunteers with a planting demonstration.

“The City and our members who are volunteering are helping us improve the visual quality of downtown Windsor,” says Virginia Cosco-Pizzuti, DWBIA Chair. “It’s a wonderful collaboration and we’re deeply grateful to Parks & Rec for supporting our efforts.”

Since Windsor prides itself on being “bicycle friendly”, why don’t they take one or two of these planters on each block of Ouellette and transform them into bike parking spots? When we ride downtown, there is no place to park our bikes!

That is a great idea Marcus. Most will not stop to visit a business if there is no place to park their bike.

Vegetables! I’ve always thought that vegetables should be grown in city planters; or when the city plants trees, why not plant apple trees?

    Interesting
CUPE not saying that it’s their job to plant flowers.
