Mayor Eddie Francis and Warden Tom Bain have officially announced the dates of the Windsor Essex 47th International Children’s Summer Games.
The event will be held in Windsor Essex from August 14 to August 19, 2013.
The International Children’s Games (ICG) began in 1967 and since that time, more than 33,500 young people from 360 different cities, from 78 countries on five continents, have competed at 41 Summer Games and 3 Winter Games.
The organization was officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1990 and the games take place under the auspices of the IOC. The Games are officially recognized as the Children’s Olympic Games. Youth between the ages of 12 to 15 compete in this premier international event which combines sport with educational and cultural exchange opportunities.
The ICG Summer Games traditionally draws between 1500-2000 athletes, coaches and chaperones, as well as members of the families who come to support their teams.
The goal of the ICG is to enable, develop and advance the meeting, understanding and friendship of children from different counties, and advance the values and spirit of the Olympic Games.
