A suspect believed to be responsible for a number of thefts from Windsor Regional Hospital is in Windsor Police custody this morning after attempting to evade arrest by jumping out of a second floor hotel room early this morning.

Shortly after midnight this morning, Wednesday, June 15, 2011, uniformed WPS officers received information that the suspect depicted in the hospital surveillance video was in a hotel room located in the 2100 block of Division Rd.  Officers attended the hotel room located on the second floor of the building.  Officers knocked on the door and identified themselves as Windsor Police Officers.  Immediately after the officers announced themselves, other officers who were outside the building including a K9 Unit, observed the suspect open the window to the hotel room and jump out the window located approximately 20 feet above the ground.  The suspect fell to the ground and suffered an ankle injury.  He was immediately arrested by the officers and transported to Hotel Dieu Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

A 35 year old Windsor man is in custody facing two charges of Theft Under $5000.  The investigation is ongoing and it is expected that further charges will be laid.

UPDATE JUNE 17TH 2011:

As a result of the investigation, Andrew Shanahan, 35 years of Windsor is now in custody facing charges of two counts of Theft Under $5000, Mischief Not Exceeding $5000, Resisting a Police Officer and Breach of Probation.
