With summer here, one organization is planning its biggest fundraiser of the year.

Sponsored by Insight Enterprises, Essex Youth Centre (EYC) is preparing for its fourth-annual Running Of The Balls. Taking place after the parade at Essex Funfest on July 9, the event is sure to be a kick.

Fundraiser tickets will be sold for $5 each by EYC members at several areas in Essex until July 6. After already selling tickets all over, on Thursday they’ll set up shop at CIBC from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Canada Day (July 1) will see youth at Essex Party Discount from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All proceeds raised will go towards EYC’s operating costs and access to tickets will still be easy to find.

“We’ve scheduled all our days where we’re going to stand out in front of various businesses in the area,” said EYC staff member, Matt Doyscher. “Beachwalk is going to be selling tickets for us. Essex Party Discount, Source For Sports, CIBC – you won’t be able to miss us.”

For those not familiar with the fundraiser, 1,000 tickets are sold – each with a number that corresponds to a beach ball. The day of the event, all of them are put into a truck, contained with netting and transported to Essex Funfest in the parade. Once on the arena grounds, balls are kicked forward: The first one past the finish line is worth $500 while the next five balls earn $100 each for their ticket holders.

Those looking for more information on the fundraiser or EYC’s services can call 519-776-9000.
