Hello time traveller!!

The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

In the early morning hours of June 6th 2010, a tornado cut a path through Leamington in the vicinity of Bevel Line and Seacliff Drive. It ran a course of approximately half a kilometre heading westbound.  Every large tree along Seacliff Drive from Erie Street in Leamington to Union Avenue in Kingsville was either damaged or completely uprooted, changing the landscape and the lives of those who live there. Now, one year later, we went back to Leamington.

Still visible are the wounds on dozens of trees which lost limbs.  Hundreds more could not be saved and had to come down.  The town of Leamington has pledged to plant a new tree for every tree that was lost that day.

The landscape of Seacliff park has been forever changed.  The formerly tree shaded park has lost much of its tree canopy.  The town thought, found a creative way to add some art to the park.  A few stumps from trees that were removed, are being carved out into art work.

For a look back, check out the audio documentary made by Blackburn Radio’s Kevin Black.
