As a direct result of the flooding in June 2010, City Council has approved a Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program to assist homeowners with a financial subsidy to install a sump pump and/or back-water valve (flood protection devices) to residents in certain areas of the City.

These three areas are the ones that saw the most flooding issues during last years storms.

Areas of the City covered under this program:

  • Area bounded by Central Avenue to the west, Tecumseh Road East to the south, Riverdale Avenue to the east and Riverside Drive to the north; or
  • Area bounded by Lauzon Road to the west, E.C. Row Expressway to the south, Banwell Road to the east, Tecumseh Road East to the north; or
  • Area bounded by Pillette Road to the west, E.C. Row to the south, Jefferson Boulevard to the east and Tecumseh Road East to the north.

These are several things not covered under this new program.  They are replacement of existing sump pump, addition of another and/or upgrade of existing sump pump and the installation of a sump pump when foundation drains are already separated from floor drain or sanitary sewer

The maximum subsidy under the Program is $2,800 per home/unit.

For complete details regarding the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program, including the subsidy application, which can be submitted to the City by e-mail, please visit www.citywindsor.ca/BFP.   Hard copies of these documents are also available at 350 City Hall Square Room 302, 4th Floor and the Forest Glade Community Centre.

Since May 3rd when City Council approved the Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program, the City has received many telephone inquiries from homeowners regarding the program.  These calls have been logged and the City will contact these homeowners to further process their inquiries.
