This weekend, the Theatre Intrigue Society will be presenting Disorder, an intimate look into the life of people who must struggle and live with bipolar disorder. In particular, the story follows a woman named Jasmine, a stand-up comic living with Type 2 bipolar disorder, and the pain and anguish her family and friends must endure as roller-coasters on and off of her medication. The production will be held at the Downtown Mission Theatre, and due to mature content is recommended to adult audiences only. The production is also heavily recommended to anyone who may be living with bipolar disorder, either directly or through a family member or friend.
Bipolar disorder affects approximately 1.2% of all Canadians, or about 390,094 people in Canada. The World Health Organization has listed bipolar disorder as the 6th greatest cause of disability in the world, and one study showed that 70% of bipolar patients had been misdiagnosed three times before being correctly diagnosed with bipolar disorder. In some cases, the process of correct diagnosis can take up to ten years to accomplish while patients suffer from a variety of symptoms. Though the median age for those being diagnosed with bipolar disorder is twenty-five, bipolar disorder can affect anyone at any age.
Show times for Disorder this weekend are 8:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 4:00 pm on Sunday. Ticket prices are $18.00 and $20.00. To purchase tickets, please call 519-252-3244, and for more information visit the Theatre Intrigue Society website.
