Many Windsorites drive by Our Lady of the Rosary Church on Riverside Drive East every day and wonder what will happen to the empty Church Building.

A report is due to be presented to Windsor City Council soon on t he landmark in Ford City that closed in October of 2008.  In September 2009 it was estimated to need an estimated $3.6 million dollars in structural repairs are necessary to keep the church from deteriorating.  The Dioceses of London has offered the Church to the City of Windsor for the cost of only $1.00.

In June City Council gave the approval to spend in the area of $15,000 on a study to determine the building’s condition, before giving the London Diocese an answer.

According to the minutes of the Windsor Heritage Committee, several things have been look at and discussed including the rectory structure, the costs associated with the roofing, costs associated with the grading, costs associated with the plumbing concerns, and the necessary costs for future resale of the lands.

The anticipated report to Council will include options with various business case scenarios or the option to abort the idea of purchasing it.
