Windsor Humane Society Has 29 Puppies From Mississippi Puppies Now Available For Adoption

Hello time traveller!!
This article is 4717 days old.
The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

From The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society:

The Humane Society hears every day from adopters who want to adopt a small breed dog or puppy.  Of course, small dogs and puppies are frequently available for adoption at the Humane Society, but they tend to get adopted quickly leaving many potential adopters feeling as if they have no choice but to purchase a dog from a breeder or pet store.  Our adoption counsellors encourage potential adopters to consider other dogs who are seeking homes, but there is no question that the demand for small dogs and puppies exceeds the number we normally take in.

On the other hand, there is a shelter in Mississippi that is working very hard to save as many dogs as they can, but they take in more dogs than they can possibly find homes for.  These include small breed dogs and puppies – the kinds of dogs most in demand in Ontario shelters.  To enable them to save more lives, they work with shelters like ours to send some of their ‘unwanted’ dogs to us.  The latest group of 29 dogs arrived last Saturday, and have been spending a few days getting used to their new country.

This transfer has no negative impacts on ‘local’ dogs. The dogs and puppies that we take in are ones for whom the demand in our area exceeds the supply and are therefore able to find good homes quickly.  In fact, it actually helps local dogs because we often find that adopters who come in looking for a Mississippi Darling may just find themselves falling for another dog or even a cat instead!

The first group of these dogs, as well as some ‘locals’, will be made available this Saturday and Sunday, April 30 and May 1 at the Petsmart National Adoption weekend event from 11 am to 4 pm each day.  Cats will be available at both Petsmart locations, but dogs will be available primarily at the 4001 Legacy Park Drive location in Windsor.

The second group of dogs (as well as lots of ‘locals’) will be available at a special adoption weekend on May 7 and 8 in the Humane Society’s new Dog Adoption Centre.  If you haven’t been in recently to take a look please come by and check it out.  Adoption hours are 11 am to 6 pm both days.
