Kinsgville Scouts Robbed of Pop Cans

Sometime between April 10th and the 13th, $300 worth of crushed aluminum cans, and the trailer they were being stored in, was stolen from behind the Legion on Division Road South. The 2nd Kingsville Scouts, Cubs and Venturers had been collecting the cans all year, and planned to use the money to buy new tents and camping equipment. The trailer is described as being 7′ long and 6′ wide and has tall, light blue plywood sides.  It has the “2nd Kingsville” logo on it and “pop cans” on the back. Anyone with information is asked to contact Kingsville OPP at 519-733-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

ERCA Budget Passed, Average Household Pays $13.35

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has approved its 2011 budget, coming in at $11,017,464. Almost $2.5 million of that will come from the nine member municipalities in Windsor and Essex County, including ERCA’s Clean Water ~ Green Spaces program (the only one in Ontario), which funds the acquisition of significant natural areas. In total, the levy amount requested for a household valued at $200,000 totals $13.35 per year.

IBSA Athletes Take Home Two Medals

Congratulations go to coaches Sheldon Duncan and Kelly Branton, and their team of powerlifters, for winning two medals at the 2011 International Blind Sports Federation World Championship and Games in Antalya, Turkey last week. Adam Bury won bronze in the men’s 100kg Powerlifting event by squatting 220kg, deadlifting 237.5kg and benching 142.5kg.  Tim Ekert won the silver medal in the men’s 125kg Powerlifting event, lifting an all around personal best by squatting 262.5kg, benching 247.5kg, and deadlifting 272.5kg (over 600 pounds).

UWindsor Prof To Deliver Key Note Address for Earth Day

Alan Trenhaile, a professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, will engage guests at a dinner celebrating Earth Day next Wednesday, April 20th at the Caboto Club. Trenhaile will speak on issues related to the possible rise in the earth’s sea levels by 1.5 metres by the year 2099 in his speech called “Rising Tides: Climate Change and the World’s Threatened Coasts.” The event, which will start at 6:30pm, is a fundraiser for Canada South Science City. This evening will be cloudy, with a chance of rain after 6pm. Temperatures will hover around 50 degrees F, and easterly winds will die down a bit, from 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent. Expect rain tonight, with temps dropping to 42 degrees F. Tomorrow will be cloudy with periods of rain through to the early afternoon, after which showers are likely. High temps tomorrow will range from 53 to 57 degrees F. South winds from 10 to 20 mph, turning to southwesterly winds gusting to 30 mph later in the day. The chance of rain tomorrow is 90 percent.
