Recent days there has been talk about the future of Handi-Transit in Windsor.  Late Friday afternoon the following statement was released:

On March 30, 2011, a two hour meeting was completed between members of the Handi-
Transit Board and representatives of Transit Windsor.

“There was a full, frank discussion,” said Dennis Drew, Chairperson of the Handi-Transit
Board. “We will be working with Transit Windsor to review the full family of
transportation services. The focus will be on the varied needs of the people of this
community, now and in the future, in keeping with both Federal and Provincial
legislation. Our clients may be assured of continued, quality service.”

“We have laid the groundwork and developed guiding principles to move this project
forward,” said City Councillor Bill Marra, who also serves as Chairperson of the Transit
Windsor Board. “We will examine the various sustainable models that incorporate
industry best practices in order to meet the needs of our community.”

Drew and Marra also affirmed the relationship between the two organizations and have
scheduled a follow-up meeting in April which will include staff from both organizations.
