This past Friday a group of students at the Odette School of Business at the University of Windsor completed a mandatory component of their course and helped the community.  The fundraiser “Fashion for a Cause” held at Vermouth in downtown Windsor raised nearly $1700 to help benefit the Downtown Mission and the newly launched not-for-profit group LeeLee Hats.

In 2009, the Downtown Mission served nearly 6400 people through its food bank program, and the need is ever-growing.  The Mission counts on local donations to feed the numerous people that pass through its doors everyday and they are fast approaching what is expected to be a very busy season.

Local charity Lee Lee hats will also benefit from the funds raised by purchasing yarn and running their Sweetheart Knit Club on the first and third Saturday of every month.  Volunteers are needed and even those with no experience are encouraged to come out.  Beginners will be provided with the needed materials and instructions to help knit hats for NICU babies in need.  Those interested can contact Tracy Summerfield by emailing [email protected].

The event’s success was made possible by an array of local business and special thanks is given to: Dan from Vermouth Bar, Elaine from Chatty Collection, Dee Dee from Dilly Daisy, Den-igan, Julie from Solace Laser Studio, Danielle from Adrenaline Extreme Fitness, Lindsey Virban at Starbucks Walker Road, the Windsor Spitfires, Oak Farms of Leamington, Rogers Wireless, and all of the other contributors and volunteers who made the event such a success.
