Hello time traveller!!

In honour of the release of their new EP “Live What You Love” Windsor’s The Classix threw a party at the Blind Dog Last night. To help them celebrate they brought in The Greatest Invention and We Can Be Heroes, making for a night full of pop-rock.

First on stage was The Greatest Invention, playing their second show after first opening for the Inoke Errati EP release party back in February. (These guys also used to be known as Credible Witness, in case that rings any bells) Catchy pop songs set a good mood to open the night, with nice arrangements and a sound that really fit together. I found them to sound rather like a watered-down version of StereoGoesStellar, (and no, it’s not just that both bands use piano…) but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Two thumbs up to the toms, though, I couldn’t get enough of those.

Up next, We Can Be Heroes. This was my second encounter with these guys recently, and I was far more impressed than with their previous show where they opened for Chasing Amee. The guitar tone was still awesome, but at least this time it was possible to hear something other than guitar. Power chords and poppy vocals fused with jumpy bass and beefy drums to create something that still resembles These Kids Wear Crowns, only this time I caught a bit more Owl City in it, as well.

And then came the guys putting on the show, The Classix. Opening with a megaphone, it was a party as soon as they came on stage, and that never really stopped. The crowd bobbed and danced as the band rocked through songs that fused rock, pop, punk, and 90’s easy listening. Fans of SR-71 and The Johnstones are very likely to find a new favourite with this group. The performance was energetic, and it was interesting to hear them play the first song they ever wrote (back then they were known as The After Party) and follow it up with a track off the new CD. A maturing in arrangements and styling has definitely occurred, but the party vibe has not been lost; these guys still like to have fun, but throw in a bit more of a moral to their new stuff as well.

Anyone who purchased pre-sale tickets received a free copy of “Live What You Love” when the stub was presented to the merch booth, and that was a pretty cool thing. So now since there are that many copies of the EP floating around the city, go out, find one, and give it a listen. If you like pop-punk-semi-rap that makes you wanna dance, you’ll probably like this. And even if that’s not your thing, support local artists and try it anyhow.
