Despite tough economic times, many stayed out of the gutter and are looking ahead for good causes.

Hosted on Saturday, February 26, Windsor & Essex Cancer Centre Foundation’s 15th Annual “Think Pink” Bowl-A-Thon was successful. Participation was up as 161 people helped raise $25,000, topping last year’s $20,000, raised by 120 bowlers.

“The highest score was 237, bowled by Steven Bergeron,” said Anne Campeau, a member of one of three Breast Ride Ever teams. “Lowest score was bowled by seven-year-old Alexis Kenney with a six and the most pink team was the Meyer family.”

Campeau, who didn’t help organize the event but promoted it, is also planning fundraisers for the Breast Ride Ever with her wife Nikki.

Buckets For Boobs will take place on Saturday, May 7, at Hydeaway Golf Club on Elmstead Rd. and the ticket price goes a long way.

“$10 will get a bucket of balls for the driving range,” said Anne. “It will also enter you into a draw for door prizes , including a $1,500 golf membership for Hydeaway, a weekend motorcycle course at St. Clair College and other prizes as well as a live auction, entertainment, barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers for sale. ”

Tickets are available at Hospice Of Windsor (6038 Empress St., 519-974-7100) or Windsor & Essex Cancer Centre Foundation (2220 Kildare Rd., 519-253-3191, ext. 58506). Additionally, those interested can e-mail Anne or Nikki.

While not hosted by the Windsor & Essex Cancer Centre Foundation, funds raised will benefit the organization. They’ll also be split between those providing support and resources for victims of cancer.

“Our goal for The Breast Ride Ever 2011 is to increase awareness and provide much needed funds for breast cancer research,” said Anne. “We also want to provide funds for diagnostic equipment and Hospice services for people in Windsor and Essex County.”

This year, the Breast Ride Ever itself will be turned into a poker run. Taking place on Saturday, July 9, the police escorted ride will bring participants to Thunder Road Harley Davidson, Tecumseh Roadhouse, Meadows by the Lake, Brews and Cues and the WFCU Centre’s Collavino Hall – where a southern barbecue and bands will finish the day.

Limited dinner-only tickets will be available for pre-sale. Registration fees for riders ($35) and passengers ($20) will cover meal costs, those raising $100 or more are exempt. Public registration will take place at locations including Tecumseh Roadhouse, Rona’s and Meadows By The Lake. Donations will also be accepted for those unable to participate in the ride.

For a full list of dates and online registration, you can visit the Breast Ride Ever’s website.
