The Urban Chicken issue will again be before city council this Monday evening, in what is expected to be the first major decision of this term of Council.

The issue first went before City Council November 8, 2010 and  the recommendation at that time was to form a committee to study urban chickens.  The Committee was to review both sides of the issue, engage in public consultation and recommend a position on the issue to the Licensing Commission, and if it is supported that recommendation will then be presented to Council.   At that meeting Council voted 6-3 to defer indefinitely any further discussion, and it seemed the issue was done.

Following that decision by Council, Rose City Farms held an “open coop” day at her house on November 14,2010 with  the idea being to promote support for having feathered egg-layers in the yards of many Windsor homes.  http://windsorite.ca/2010/11/15/inside-the-coop/

On November 22, 2010 the issue went before Council again when Councilor Alan Halberstadt mane a Notice of Motion for the issue to be re-tabled, and after much debate over dates, Council agreed to re visit the issue at the January 24th, 2011 council meeting.

There are currently 7 listed delegations scheduled to speak on the issue.  There is also a Facebook group encouraging people to attend the Council meeting.
