World Aids Day, Wednesday December 1 is an opportunity to raise HIV awareness around the World. Here in Windsor there are several events planned to help commemorate and educate the public including a conference for youth to be held at The Caboto Club.

This is a collaborative effort between the Aids Committee of Windsor, Teen Health Centre, Windsor-Essex County Health Care Unit and the Windsor Regional Hospital HIV Care Program.

“We’re targeting youth in the community,” said ACW Director of Health Promotion and Communication Pauline Nash. “We’ve targeted all the high schools in the area and received some real good response through the public board through the use of their electronic mailing system.”

There are a number of activities planned during the day including the HIV 101 presentation, education sessions, workshops and panel discussion. Two young speakers will share their experience, strength and hope with the students.

“We have a fun activity planned towards the end of the day where students will design tee shirts that portray an HIV message,” said Nash. “It should be a fun day.”

Nash says they have about 60 students registered for the conference. There is still time to register but hurry, space is limited. The $5 registration fee covers the workshop material and lunch.
