This Week’s Agenda Highlights:

This week’s main portion of the council agenda is rather light, with no major issues coming before council other than a report from CAO Helga Reidel out lining what her accomplishments were in 2010 and laying out her goals for 2011.  Some of her accomplishments included corporate restricting, the 2010 budget with no tax increase, carrying out the 2010 election under new ward boundaries, starting the process to rebuild labor relations following the 2009 strike, overseeing the roll out of the ISF projects and overseeing the 400 building audit.  Mrs. Reidel also outlines her objectives for 2011 which include the development of a Human Resources strategy, the development of a Financial Strategy, the developing an internal and external communications strategy, promoting regional relationships and staff readiness and planning.

On the communications Agenda:

Fred’s Farm Fresh International Market is on the move.  Owner Alfred Bouzide has a zoning amendment on the communications agenda, to permit a commercial district for lands located at 2144 Huron Church Rd.  This is just north of the intersection of Northwood and Huron Church.  Fred’s Farm Fresh has to relocate, as the current site the International Market sits on, is needed for the Windsor-Essex Parkway. Also locating on lands here, is the Daytona carwash which also has had to relocate.

An answer has come back to a council question asked in January 2009.  The question posed was for administration to see if there was any way the city could jump start talks with Fords to acquire the 13 acre Ford property on the North side of Riverside Drive next to Hiram Walker (to most this is known as the area where the huge piles of sand used to sit) In June 2007 Fords had an appraisal on the land and that valued it at $9.4 million, the city had one done in October of the same year and it came back at $4.95 million.  In early 2008 Ford was seeking internal approvals to allow negations to continue, but with the collapse of the auto industry, Fords has yet to receive the necessary internal funding for this.  As of September 10, 2010 Fords advises the city, this matter is still on hold.

Notice of Motion:

Councilor Halberstadt will bring forward the following motion: That the City of Windsor apply to the Share the Road Cycling Coalition of Ontario for the designation as a Bicycling Friendly Community. To find out what this designation would mean for Windsor you can read more here
