Friday, July 30th – Windsor, Ontario: A 22-year-old female drowned around 4:20am at Sand Point Beach early Friday morning.

Police state that the girl and 3 male friends swam out past the buoy rope line, at which point the girl went missing. One of the male friends who tried to rescue the female also nearly drowned.

Police maintain that alcohol and inability to swim were two contributing factors to the incident.

The O.P.P. Underwater Search & Recovery team was dispatched from Bracebridge, Ontario, which is just north of Orillia. The dive team eventually arrived at 3pm. Their investigation is ongoing.

Police have not yet released the identity of the female, as they still need to notify the next of kin. It has however been stated that she is a student at the University of Windsor.

The section of water near Sand Point Beach is notorious for having powerful currents as it is where Lake St. Clair flows into the Detroit River.

As of 5pm Sunday, August 1st, the body of the missing female was found by a 3rd party on the shore near Sand Point Beach.
