PHOTOS: Major Fire in West Windsor

Windsor firefighters have extinguished a massive blaze at Prince and Chappel streets in west Windsor.  The fire is located at Blue Pointe Plastics, a plastics storage facility next to Standard Induction in the 300 block of Chappel.  The location, which is set back from the road, is presenting difficulty to crews trying to contain the giant blaze.

Firefighters from stations One, Two, Three, Four, Six, Seven and Eight are on scene along with two dozen police vehicles.

Hundreds of curious onlookers flocked to the scene around nine last night, many reporting they could feel the heat of the flames.  After twenty minutes, police pushed curious citizens back to Sandwich Street.

Firefighters used three aerial trucks to defensively fight the fire as it spread to a nearby warehouse.

Police urge nearby residents to shut their windows and stay indoors.  It is unknown at this time exactly what type of plastic is burning.

Smoke is drifting as far south as South Windsor and can be seen farther east than Walkerville according to numerous reports on Facebook and Twitter.

Update (10:30pm):  Smoke can be seen as far as McGregor.  Residents immediately near the scene living on Peter, Prince, Bloomfield, Hill and Chappel have been asked to voluntarily evacuate their homes by Windsor Police, or remain and close their windows.  Yellow caution tape stretches across several streets from Watkins to Chappel.  A firefighter suffered minor injuries and is being treated by EMS.

Update 2 (11:30pm):  Lasalle Fire Dept is arriving to assist Windsor Fire as some firefighters have been battling the blaze for nearly two hours.  Smoke is still billowing into the sky in west Windsor; firefighters are pouring heavy amounts of water and foam on areas surrounding the blaze to contain its spread.
