June is Bike Month in Windsor, and the events continue with a screening of the award-winning documentary Veer, taking place tomorrow night (June 12th) at Milk Coffee Bar (68 University Ave. West) at 9pm. The screening is being hosted by a brand new cycling advocacy group, called Bike Friendly Windsor.

Narrated by television and movie actor Matthew Modine (Gross Anatomy, Any Given Sunday, Law & Order SVU, Weeds), Veer features the lives of five Portland, Oregon cyclists. It focuses on their involvement in cycling advocacy groups, and their efforts to promote cycling as a valid means of transportation. The film follows the cyclists over a year’s time, and through their struggles and triumphs, examines the power of community and shows how affective a grass-roots social movement can be.

Veer premiered at the Victoria Film Festival, won Best Documentary at the Calgary Underground Film Festival, and was nominated for Best Documentary at the San Joaquin International Film Festival. It was also chosen as an official selection during the Lincoln Center Film Society’s Green Screen Series in New York.
