California Avenue is full of dust and construction equipment — for a good reason.

The University of Windsor’s up-and-coming Centre for Engineering Innovation, a provincially-funded $110-million dollar academic research facility, is beginning to take shape.

A visit to the site, located southeast from the main University campus in West Windsor, reveals elevator shafts, bases for lecture halls and other visible parts of the building’s foundation.

The Centre for Engineering Innovation is being constructed in two phases.  Phase One will be complete in March 2011 and will be comprised of an industrial courtyard, which will connect numerous laboratories and testing facilities with an open-form courtyard for private research partnerships.

By March 2012, Phase Two will be complete with classrooms, lecture halls, offices, a grand atrium and food court ready to open to students the following September.
