Windsor’s most prolific musician, Johnny West, will be featured in a new documentary produced by local filmmaker Josh Kolm.

I first heard West play back in 2000 at Walkerville Collegiate during a yearly talent-show-tradition called “Air Jam”.  His iconic guitar-on-lap style of playing, and famous long black hair captivated me instantly.  Ten years later, West has produced twenty-nine albums and hasn’t made a cent — but that’s the intention.

West doesn’t charge for albums and is insistent on giving his unmatched style of music away for free.  You can most often find Johnny West albums, transaction-free, at Dr. Disc (659 Ouellette Ave).

His latest album, Love Songs for Nihilists is at position 143 in the Canada-wide University and College Radio charts.

The full documentary will be released this spring.
