The Windsor Symphony Orchestra and the University of Windsor School of Music are celebrating new Canadian music this week with a full line-up of events, ranging from free shows at Phog, to round table discussions, to full-on orchestral concerts at the Armouries. Mix in a bevy of video art installations, and this festival is sure to appeal to Windsorites as a whole.
The Windsor Canadian Music Festival aims to raise awareness of Canadian composers and musicians, focusing on emerging artists that could use a bit of promotional love. This year, composers from across the continent will be highlighted, performing not only classical music, but also jazz, funk, percussion, and vocal arrangements.
Tonight you can get down at the Phog Phunk Phest IV, starting at 9pm at Phog Lounge. Tomorrow, heat things up with a recital from the Romeo Sierra Tango Student recital at the Windsor Armouries (I wonder if there will be any tango music involved?). Thursday night, don’t miss artist-in-residence Virgil Moorefield‘s Five Ideas About the Relation of Sight and Sound, again at the Armouries.
Friday and Saturday both boast main events- the Windsor Symphony performs at the Armouries (7:30pm) to kick the weekend off, and the School of Music Faculty rounds the festival out with a concert featuring music by composers Robert Lemay, Brent Lee, Jordan Nobles, Robert Rival and Sundar Subramanian.
This is just a handful of the events being offered; check out the full schedule here!
