The Drivers & Vehicles Licence Centre on Tecumseh Road closed without warning, last Friday

Drivers attempting to renew their licenses at the “Windsor Central” Drivers and Vehicles License Centre before last weekend were in for a shock.

The Ministry of Transportation: Ontario vehicle licensing centre at 1320 Tecumseh Road East closed its doors on Thursday night, and by noon the next day the location was just a shell on the inside.

Nearby employees of Party Giant tried telephoning the location early Friday morning, and were informed that the phone number had been disconnected.

No advanced notice had been posted at the location informing customers of the closure.

A moving truck, accompanied by Windsor Police sat parked outside the building for most of the morning, while materials and furniture were removed from the interior.

The ‘Windsor Central’ Drivers and Vehicles License Centre underwent renovations back in October 2009.

A quick visit to Service Ontario’s website turned up that the location’s listing had been promptly removed.  A sign on the actual location’s door pointed would-be customers to other Drivers and Vehicles Licensing locations in Windsor.

The ‘Windsor Central’ location, at Tecumseh Rd. E. and Hall Avenue processed drivers license renewals, distributed license plate validation stickers and offered bilingual service.

The next closest license centre is located at 2437 Dougall Avenue.
