A Farewell to Utsy Hadaro and welcome to Justin Langlois at the ACWR

Arts leadership in Windsor is changing!  The Arts Council Windsor & Region held a farewell party for outgoing Executive Director Utsy Hadaro last night at Artspeak Gallery.

The ACWR is welcoming its new director, Broken City Lab’s Justin A. Langlois.

“The community support behind one-another in this town is unheard of anywhere else,” recalled Utsy Hadaro when interviewed by windsoriteDOTca.  Hadaro is moving to London, Ontario with partner and former curator at the Art Gallery of Windsor, James Patten.  “It’s a great community, and with Justin at the helm now I think it’s not only going to do the Arts Council well, but certainly the community at large.”

Hadaro managed the Arts Council Windsor & Region for just over two years, administered several dozen shows by local artists and secured funding for Windsor’s arts scene.

Justin Langlois, perhaps best known for his role as leader of interdisciplinary art and urban research group Broken City Lab, was appointed to replace Hadaro back on February 11th.

Broken City Lab achieved city-wide recognition for its Text-in-Transit program, whereby positive slogans were placed onto advertising panels on Transit Windsor buses.  The multi-member arts collective is most recently involved in an ongoing venture called “Save the City”.

“The Arts Council right now is in a good position — we’re in our thirtieth year — and I think it’s really going to come into its own now.  With what Justin has done with Broken City Lab and other arts collaborations, I think he has a really strong understanding about what the Arts Council is about —  it’s going to be really exciting.”

The ACWR is a non profit Windsor / Essex arts advocacy, leadership and education organization supported by the City of Windsor, the Ontario Arts Council and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.  The ACWR maintains Artspeak Gallery, at 1942 Wyandotte St. E. in Walkerville.
