Work toward the University of Windsor’s new $110 million Centre for Engineering Innovation is proceeding.  As many of you may know, the University has an underground network of walkable service tunnels which carry high pressure steam and high voltage electricity from the University powerplant to various buildings.

The tunnels, while navigable on foot, are extremely off limits to the public and are only accessed for repairs to the variety of utilities they carry.  A friend of mine, Mike B. was allowed to take photos in the tunnels a number of years ago.

One of the first steps for the new Engineering Building is extending a new tunnel from the main tunnel line, over to California Avenue, to meet the new building’s foundation.  Construction crews, this week, began digging the new service tunnel on Sunset Avenue.
