Citizens for Jobs NOW!

You might have noticed these lawn signs springing up around Windsor, they’re part of an effort called Citizens for Jobs NOW!, a citizen movement focused on “ensureing that [Windsorites'] voices are heard by politicians in the decision-making process… [for the] creation of thousands of jobs in our community“.

Citizens for Jobs NOW!

The purpose behind Citizens for Jobs NOW! is to ensure that local construction projects get a move-on, including the future border crossings such as the Ambassador Bridge replacement span (which is reported will create 4000 jobs within a year) and the downriver DRIC bridge project (which CFJN indicates will create 12,000 jobs just for the access road!).

Citizens for Jobs NOW!

What I like about Citizens for Jobs NOW! is that the group is without any political affiliation (non-partisan); it’s a simple push for things to get started here in Windsor. We’re on the verge of a huge construction boom in Windsor, and an economic revitalization at that!

Afterall, we lead the province in federal infrastructure spending, which means a lot of things from roads and sewers, to fancier projects are on their way. CFJN is also pulling for local construction workers to get these jobs, instead of allowing out of town contracters to take over. A pretty cool local solution.

Citizens for cake now? I could go for some cake. But jobs would be good, too, so that my husband could stay in the city and work!

I like how you have framed your shots and the selected backdrop to the signs. They capture the message in a way that represents a plea for and by the people but I also feel a sense of hope that this message will get heard.

  • Potentially Bright…

It is quite refreshing to see positive coverage of the Citizens movement…these pictures help to symbolize the wholly genuine intent of the message. Thank you Windsor Visuals for helping to express what so many Windsorites feel…Windsor has potential, and we are here to make sure that the future is bright!

Nice shots. I like the one with the Canadian flag behind it. It’s pretty interesting watching these signs keep popping up…could it be there is a cause out there we can all agree on? I hope so. I just ordered one for my little spot on the planet. Yeah!!

im all for new jobs and everything, but stuff like construction is a temporary fix. Yay 12 000 people will build the bridge, what happens when the bridge is built? sure, it needs maintenance and such, but what about the other 8 000 – 10 000 people?
we need new industries. like building wind turbines, or solar panels or network technology or any number of other things. We have a ton of empty factories, all we need to do is update them.
This being said, I do support what their goal is, but it needs to be a long term thing, otherwise we’re just delaying the inevitable.

I heard that the statistics are something like 4 service industry jobs are created for every 1 construction worker job, so that might be promising!

While new industry would be fantastic, the reality of the situation is that the city can’t stop fighting any type of progress long enough to get roads paved, and existing projects started. Can you imagine how long it would take for a new industry to settle here?
They will be buried in permits, and assessments, meetings, etc, and that process, while working in the long term, does nothing for the people who need jobs now!
I like the Citizens for Jobs Now approach, as it is working to hold politicians accountable for the projects that they said have been endorsed, and get these projects rolling, putting people to work.
We all know that politicians love to say we’re going to give you money for this and that, and then 5 years later a single shovel hasn’t turned.
Short term projects, sure, but the important thing is to put a bug under the politicians to stop holding up improvements, so that they might give a second thought when the long term things come down.
If you do nothing, you get nothing.
