Google Street View Car in Windsor, ON

I can’t believe what I just saw!!  The Google Street View car drove by my house in Walkerville, Windsor Ontario a few minutes ago!

I chased it down past Walkerville Highschool, past Willistead Park, and around Willistead Cres.  Neat!  I guess this means Windsor will soon be on Google Street View!  More pics…

Passing Walkerville Collegiate.

Turning down Willistead Cres..  It appears that the rooftop apparatus has six or eight cameras, which fire simultaneously at regular intervals to stitch together a 360 degree panorama.

I think I’m even more amazed by this because we were just having a discussion over at Broken City Lab about the possibility of Google Street View coming to Windsor!

Hahahahahaha.. actually, the best part will be the photo of myself, on my front lawn, pointing at the car and shouting “GOOGLE”! Had to chase it down from there.

Hope there weren’t piles of garbage and overgrown grass everywhere it went… that wouldn’t be a good look for online visitors!

This is the worst possible time for them to be here considering how overgrown the parks and boulevards are :(

Was there anything that identified this as a Google vehicle? This car has Ontario license plates. It could just be something else from Windsor.

Yes, it had a Google logo on the left side (you can see it in the second picture). The camera apparatus is also the exact same setup as other Google vehicles used for capturing Street View. Windsor was announced to be on Google Canada’s Street View list back in May.

Dude…I saw your picture on the front page of the Windsor Star Online. I also read your interview in the story. Pretty cool man. Crappy timing for Windsor though.

    • http://www.windsorvisuals.com Owen (westerntragedy)

      Yeah, crappy time indeed.

Windsor Blogger breaking into the mainstream! Hopefully you’ll remember your online roots when you start picking up your awards for photography at the National Newspaper Awards! Good job, Man!

Saw the pic in the Star. Strange that they chose to use the Walkerville pic and then blow it up. Could have had a much nicer pic with any of the others.

Yeah totally! They picked the worst one I shot, while driving to boot. Serves me right for using a point and shoot and not having my good camera on me at the time heh..
