Anyone notice the dandelions??

This morning, I knew I needed to document something that was causing me some pretty annoying seasonal allergies — the sheer number of dandelions in Windsor!! If you’ve been to any park around town lately, no doubt you’ve noticed the overpopulation of the little yellow ‘flowers’. For some reason they seem to be more plentiful this year?

EDIT: Ah, I guess I wasn’t alone in noticing these, the Windsor Star has an article up about the dandelions!!

I’m not sure if the abundance of dandelions in Windsor is due to the ongoing City of Windsor strike (as cutting lawns removes the flowers’ ability to reproduce) or the Ontario-wide pesticide ban that went into effect on April 22rd of this year.

Jackson Park is only one of many parks in Windsor with a heap of the yellow flowers. Although, the contrast between the dandelions and the cherry blossoms (magnolias?) above make a decent photo!

I’m pretty sure those are Cherry Blossom trees in Jackson Park.

I love how many Cherry Blossom trees are in Windsor. Makes driving a wonderfully colourful experience. There’s a house over by Bloomfield Motors (Ottawa & Howard) that has 3 different types of cherry blossom tree – light, medium, and dark red/pink. I love it. I love magnolia trees too, but as soon as you notice they’ve bloomed, they’re dropping their blooms already.

Okay, I get it, they are weeds, but they make everything look so pretty and colourful! I mean, just look at that picture you took above!

yeah they are actually rather pretty! I mean, im ready to practically die when I get near them, from allergies (not to mention my jeans are now stained yellow), but hey, they do have some pretty vibrant hues

i was struggling all day, googling both trees, trying to figure out which was which. I didn’t really even know we had cherry blossoms here in Windsor! I figured they were just magnolias, but you just saved my life with that clarification!

my friend took a seminar on making dandelion wine about two weeks ago downtown. I think the place is the Worker’s Forum (or something along those lines), right next to Terra Cotta & Biscuits and Gravy.

Actually they are crab apple trees. I love them. The blossoms are one of my favourites in scent and appearance. I am only sad that their bloom is so short.

I was noticing the ridiculous amount of dandelions already too. I love the intense green of the grass in spring and was kind of annoyed it’s so yellow already.

Still pretty in comparison to bleak grey! Especially with everything in bloom.

The trees you see are actually Crab Apple Trees. Queen Victoria Public School used to have one in the playground (Sandy area) for years but they recently cut it down. I grew up loving these trees. Their scent is incredible and their blooms are so pretty.

I used to live in this dinky apartment on the west end, and my kitchen window looked out in this alley way between a ton of backyards. They were filled with these trees and lilacs bushes as well. My apartment may have been kinda skeezy, but it always smelled amazing in May when I left that kitchen window open.

Crab apple trees? Huh. I had no idea they had such pretty blossoms! Learn something new everyday!
