The Windsor Fire Department has been on their toes this weekend. Earlier Saturday, a brush fire at Ojibway Nature Reserve spread across Matchette Rd. and burned out dry grasses and brambles in the ditches, which kept both Lasalle and Windsor Fire departments on scene for most of the day.
The latest, a fire at a convenience store next to Hurricanes Bar and Grill on Sandwich and Mill. Many, many firetrucks were on scene, and firefighters struggled for a while to determine where all the smoke was coming from.
The fire was put out quickly, but smoke kept pouring out from the plaza’s awning, and from behind the store’s signs.
Smoke spread from the Sandwich Convenience Store to neighbouring Hurricanes, where several patrons were gathered outside. A busy weekend for Windsor’s Fire and Rescue Services.
