Thanks to the power of Google Maps, I’ve put together a list of viewable webcams in Windsor. The video above is an output/time lapse from possibly the most interesting webcam in the area, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle. This webcam is user controlled, and lets you pan, tilt and zoom anywhere within it’s range, which includes almost all of the Windsor skyline. Click “Read More” for the Google Map of the webcams, plus a simple links-list of the webcams in the area.

If you know of any other webcams that are continuously streaming live in Windsor / Essex County, let me know, and I’ll add ‘em to the list!

They need to just hurry up and legalise the Google Map road view already. I’ve been touring California and Japan – I want to be able to show my international friends the streets in Windsor and Barrie!
Hell they even have Detroit for heaven’s sake. If Detroit isn’t embarrassed Windsor shouldn’t be.

actually, they legalized it (basically) last week, and Google has started driving around and capturing Street View in Canadian cities. However, Windsor isn’t on their list, and probably never will be. I’ve been working on a ‘secret’ project for the last year, however to do a virtual tour of various parts of Windsor, in the style of the video game “Myst” (google that if you don’t know what I mean). It should be up and running in a few weeks – end of April.

Why won’t Windsor ever be on their list?

  • westerntragedy

well, they’re probably only ever going to do the “big” cities. most Canadians don’t even know we exist down here, sadly. that and they scorn our name as the “armpit of Ontario”. still, it’d be nice to see Google do this.
