The Classic Bingo watertower.  I’ve always wanted to photograph this, but never have until now.  Does anyone know anything about it?  Does it actually hold water anymore?  Is it merely an advertisement for Classic Bingo V?

Kudos to

for the idea to shoot something in black and white.

wow! i took almost the same picture a few years ago (2002?). i used to live by this water tower for like 14 years. i always loved how gritty and ran down it was. when i saw that they painted it pink and put a logo on it, it was like part of my childhood died, lol.

i really love how you shot it in black and white :) it definitely adds an air of solidness to it, which is a complete contrast to how it looks in my photo:

Thanks nootka, not quite everything though… I’ll come over here and answer the question instead of making Westerntragedy come to me.

I’m not sure if it’s in use or not any more, I doubt it, but it was used in an industrial application for the property to the west.

There are still a few old brick buildings and a large dirt lot. That was in the 1910′s through the 1940′s a Post Cereal Factory. They pumped out Post Toasties and I think Grape Nuts too over there. Until about 3 years ago when a few more were demolished, the old office building was still standing and sporting a painted ad for Postum. Postum was a coffee substitute made by Post.

Thanks Andrew! I figured it had some connection to the buildings in the surrounding area.. I wonder exactly what those buildings are used for today (one of those near the tracks is apparently “Boarder City Storage”). I’m going to assume they’re as run-down inside as the dirt lot on which they sit.

holy rusty! I’d totally forgotten what it used to look like before. thanks =)

The storage building is independent from that complex. The storage building was origianlly a drug (pharmaceuticals) manufacturing plant in the 20′s.

There is a big old wood garage behind it that you can see from Crawford that is waaay older (in my opinion) that the brick building. It almost looks like a big old barn. There’s a story there, I’m just not sure what it is… :)
